Why Clean Air Filters Are So Important

If you read our blog previously, you’ll notice with almost every issue that the first step is checking the air filters for debris. There may be more clogging than usual or it may simply be the scheduled time to change the filter. Bottom line, keeping your air filter as clean as possible can prevent a multitude of potential problems.

Dirty filter means dirty air

This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s a little more complicated than you might think. Even if you open your windows and doors to “air out” your home regularly, allergens, dust, and other debris enter your home and need to be filtered out through your HVAC unit. You may notice you need to change your filter more regularly in the spring when there’s an increase in allergens, or right after moving into your home. This is completely normal, and you should be able to resume your scheduled filter changing after these occurrences.

Dirt can slow your whole unit down

If your air filter is dirty, it can’t filter out additional debris. Things like dust can then enter your unit, causing additional stress to other parts like the coils. Repairing parts of your HVAC unit that are suffering due to debris buildup can be incredibly costly, so taking the preventative measure to change your air filter is a long-term cost savings.

Clean filters are more energy efficient

The bottom line is that you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on repairs to your HVAC unit or your utility bill. Clean air filters, as mentioned above, can prevent costly repairs. This also means your HVAC unit can work more efficiently without fighting through the built up debris.
