A Legacy of Innovation
Founded in 1874, YORK® has been an industry-leader since the beginning. A revolutionary YORK® "air washing" system installed in 1914 was the precursor to modern-day air conditioning. In 1924, the world’s first air-conditioned office building used YORK® equipment. And today, YORK® products are heating and cooling iconic structures including the Empire State Building, the English Chunnel, the U.S. Capitol Building and the Sydney Opera House.
An Investment in Quality
In 2006, YORK® became a brand of Johnson Controls – a Fortune 100 company and a leader in world-class manufacturing. This alliance has allowed us to invest in industry-leading research and development to deliver a wide range of products with the features requested most often:
High energy efficiency that reduces utility bills
Reduced outdoor operating sound levels
Space efficiency for smaller homes and living spaces
Attractive designs that complement your home
Easy-access panels to simplify routine maintenance
A Distinguished Past. A Confident Future.
The YORK® commitment to building quality home comfort products began over 140 years ago. A manufacturing company founded in 1874 in YORK, Pennsylvania, started making ice machines to replace the shipping of ice from the Great Lakes. The "YORK" company soon extended their expertise in refrigeration to other areas:
In 1914, YORK® installed a revolutionary "air washing" comfort system in the Empire Theater in Montgomery, Alabama. This was a precursor to what became known as air conditioning.
In 1924, YORK® equipment was used to create the world’s first air conditioned office building in Fresno, California.
Today, YORK® products are heating and cooling some of the world’s most famous structures, including the Empire State Building, the English Chunnel, U.S. Capitol Building and the Sydney Opera House.
Energy Efficiency Leader
The high cost of energy concerns nearly everyone, and homeowners are always investigating how to save energy at home. That's why nearly half of YORK® air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces are built to proudly display the ENERGY STAR® label. This label was created by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Products with the ENERGY STAR® label save at least 15% to 25% more energy than standard products. For example, our ENERGY STAR® qualified 18 SEER air conditioners or heat pumps will cost $56 to provide three tons of cooling compared to $100 with a 10 SEER unit, creating more energy efficient homes. And our 98% AFUE modulating gas furnace will use $69 worth of gas to provide the same amount of heat that would cost $100 with a 70% AFUE gas furnace.
